Show your pride wearing your 2023 "Party for Polar Bears!" gear to celebrate International Polar Bear Day
This 2023 design was created by Dayna, a keeper at Point Defiance Zoo & Aquarium. This unique design pays tribute to Blizzard the polar bear, Churchill, Manitoba, and the People of the North. Blizzard the polar bear, was rescued from Churchill in 1996 as a cub. Cubs usually stay with their moms for two and a half years and he would not have made it on his own. He went to live at Point Defiance Zoo & Aquarium where he was loved and received the best possible care. The footprints on the design are Blizzard's authenthic foot prints as a special tribute to him and all he did for polar bear's in the wild.

Churchill, Manitoba, known as the Polar Bear Capital of the World, is a unique town in the Southern Arctic with a population of 800 people and about 600 polar bears that coexist together while trying to protect polar bears. The indigenous people of the north have lived their lives in Churchill with these polar bears. People all across the Arctic region, just like polar bears, rely on the sea ice for food, transportation and to keep the earth cool. We pay tribute to these people with the rock formation called an Inukshuk. In Churchill the Inukshuk is a prominent landmark on the shores where the polar bears wait for the sea ice each year. The Inukshuk was known to be used for navigation or a travel route as well as markers for food or hunting. The Inukshuk has deep roots in the ancient culture of the People of the North.

Lastly, we have included a flag tree in the design. The the flag trees are found in the Boreal Forest and only have branches on one side due to the constant high winds. We hope you enjoy this design!
